Prerequisites for Operation

System Requirements

Other software must be installed on your computer prior to the successful execution of the spy.doc application. Please refer this section:

for more information.

Altova® XMLSpy®

Altova® XMLSpy® is required to be installed on your computer because it is executed and controlled by spy.doc in order to generate the HTML documentation for the XML-schemas. The type of documentation is controlled by options set in the spy.doc project file, and closely follows the options available in XMLSpy® itself. spy.doc interfaces to XMLSpy® using the XMSPYLIB ActiveX control to automate the documentation generation process within XMLSpy® itself. The documentation generation settings can be modified as documented in the this section:

Microsoft® HTML Workshop

Microsoft® HTML Workshop is required to be installed on your computer because the HTML Help compiler (HHC.EXE) is execute by spy.doc, with the HTML Help project (.hhp) file as input parameter. The compiler then builds the output HTML Help file (.chm). In implementation, spy.doc requires only the executable HHC.EXE and its support DLL's, not the entire HTML Help Workshop. However, the easiest and less error-prone practice is to simply install the HTML Help Workshop, if required. spy.doc requires the path of the executable HHC.EXE as a project settings parameter.
